Costs Rising/Progress Slowing/Demand Below Expectations—Porsche 718 All-Electric Version May Be Shelved

[Autohome News] Recently, media reports have indicated that due to factors such as rising R&D costs, delayed progress, and lower-than-expected demand, Porsche may shelve the launch of the all-electric version of the 718. Additionally, the previously planned all-electric three-row SUV model may also be postponed. However, this news has not yet been officially confirmed by Porsche.

According to earlier reports, in the second half of 2025, Porsche officially adjusted its electrification strategy (which aimed for over 80% of new vehicles to be all-electric by 2030) due to market performance falling short of expectations. Existing internal combustion engine models will continue into the 2030s, with next-generation products set to be launched. Furthermore, the bankruptcy of European battery manufacturer Northvolt (founded by Volkswagen Group, Goldman Sachs, and others, with technical cooperation established with Siemens) has further increased the R&D and manufacturing costs of the all-electric 718.

It is worth noting that the internal combustion engine version of the Porsche 718 was discontinued in 2025. Porsche originally planned to officially launch the all-electric 718 in 2026, with the high-performance RS version continuing to feature an internal combustion engine. More details about the new vehicle will be followed and reported on. (Text/Autohome Guo Chen)
