Hongqi’s First All-Solid-State Battery Prototype Rolls Off the Line, Laying the Foundation for Mass Production; 1,000 km Range is No Longer a Dream

[Autohome News] Recently, the first prototype vehicle equipped with Hongqi’s all-solid-state battery officially rolled off the production line. The all-solid-state battery pack was independently developed by the Hongqi Research and Development Institute and is mounted on the Hongqi Tiangong 06 model. This milestone signifies that Hongqi’s R&D has officially entered a new stage of real-vehicle testing in the field of all-solid-state battery technology.

All-solid-state batteries are widely regarded as the future development direction for power batteries due to their combination of high energy density and high safety. However, their development faces multi-dimensional scientific and engineering challenges ranging from materials and cells to processes and system integration. The successful rollout of this first prototype marks significant breakthroughs for Hongqi’s R&D in core areas such as high-voltage module packaging and lightweight system integration, laying a solid technical foundation for subsequent mass production.

Previously, GAC Group completed China’s first large-capacity all-solid-state battery production line, with mass production slated for as early as 2027. A head of corporate R&D at GAC Group stated that the energy density of the all-solid-state battery currently under development is nearly double that of existing batteries. Vehicles currently offering a range of over 500 km could potentially exceed 1,000 km of range with this technology.

Currently, the Tiangong 06 model is equipped with a CATL 98kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a maximum range of 780 km under CLTC conditions. It is expected that once the solid-state battery is integrated, achieving a range exceeding 1,000 km will no longer be just a dream. (Compiled by Qin Chao / Autohome)
